The best procedure for your unique eyes will be determined by your surgeon during your evaluation. At Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, we offer Free Evaluations* to determine if you are a candidate for Laser Vision Correction.
A Laser Vision Evaluation is a very thorough eye exam with the addition of several other tests including corneal topography
which provides us with a topographical map of YOUR cornea. This test may find specific corneal problems that are
invisible through other examination methods. We also perform corneal thickness readings (pachymetry) to determine
the depth of your cornea. Following is a list of everything included in a Laser Vision Evaluation.
- History of vision problems
- Medical History
- Visual Acuity
Assessment
- Intraocular Pressure Readings (glaucoma test)
- Keratometry Readings
- Dry Eye Test
- Manual Refraction
- Cycloplegic Refraction. (Refraction following dilation to determine your exact prescription)
- Examination of the front part of your eye, including your cornea, pupil, iris, and lens with the slit lamp microscope
- Dilation
- Examination of the inside of your eye including your retina and optic nerve
- Pachymetry
(corneal thickness measurement and topographic mapping)
- Pupil Measurements
- Informational Custom Blade-Free LASIK Video
- Wavescan
- Summary of your tests and recommendations by your laser doctor
Please be aware that your eyes will be dilated during the evaluation which causes sensitivity to light and the inability to see
up close to read or do other near work. This typically lasts into the following day. You may want your sunglasses or we are
happy to provide disposable sunglasses for you.
