    Testimonial
Thank you so very much for everything. I really appreciate your smarts and willingness to deal with anxious me and my face! My skin continues to look mcuh better each day- I swear that my chin almost looks smooth! I referred a co-workers after I found out she was going to a place that wanted to schedule an acid peel before even seeing her face! My mom and I have decided that you get our money and we are never going anywhere else again for our faces!
    Sincerely, S.K.

    Skin Care Consultation
This is a no cost 30 minute appointment where one of our registered nurses evaluates your skin, discusses your specific goals and informs you on how to prevent skin damage, photoaging and premature line formation. She also is able to develop restorative programs to renew and revive your skin's natural beauty.

    Medical Microdermabrasion
Medical microdermabrasion procedures offer a safe, non-invasive solution to skin renewal that improves wrinkles, skin texture and color by removing the topmost layer of skin. This is accomplished by gently exfoliating the skin while at the same time vacuuming the dead skin cells away in a sterile and controlled environment leaving your skin more supple and vibrant. Years of sun exposure and the aging process take their toll on the skin, creating lines, wrinkles and changes in texture and color. Not only is the face affected, but the neck, décolleté, arms and hands may be affected as well. It stimulates the elastic tissue beneath the surface of the skin and promotes the growth of healthy skin cells, resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance.

At Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, the procedures are performed in one single procedure or a series based on skin type and condition. This procedure is non-invasive, pain-free and requires no down time after treatment. Most people experience softer, smoother skin after their first treatment.

We offer the two leading medical grade units: The DiamondTome® and the Parisian Peel® Both are ideal for meeting the skin care needs of even our most sensitive patients. For specific information on each unit, visit
    www.parisianpeel.com and www.parisianpeel.com

Important information to know prior to having a microdermabrasion procedure:

We can not perform microdermabrasion if any of the following applies to you:
    • Sunburned skin.
    • Tanning bed use in the last 2 days.
    • Active Herpes Simplex (a cold sore).
    • Use of any chemical peeling agents except specified by us in the last 60 days.

    Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are topically applied formulas that revitalize the skin by accelerating the skin's natural regeneration cycle. This sloughing off of the skins outer layer reduces the appearance of fine lines, pigmented areas (brown spots), acne, and acne scarring. The procedure takes 30 minutes and there is little discomfort or downtime. After one peel you will notice an improvement in your skins tone and texture giving you a healthier more youthful appearance. Dramatic results can be achieved with a series of peels; four to six are generally needed. Grand Rapids Ophthalmology offers two types of peels; Gel Peel® by SkinCeuticals and the Vitalize Peel® by SkinMedica.

    Gel Peels by Skinceuticals
Gel Peel is the combination of glycolic and lactic acid in a unique delivery system that offers the highest acid concentrations at the lowest PH available. This formulation works to exfoliate the skin while reducing irritation and dryness. Gel Peel is ideal for those who have dry, aging or sensitive skin. These peels are recommended in a series of 5-6 peels; scheduled 3-4 weeks apart. The gel peel takes 30 minutes to apply and that includes a med-spa facial with the treatment. There is little or no peeling of the skin following this procedure. For a more aggressive procedure the Gel Peel is a great companion to microdermabrasion.

    Vitalize Peel
The Vitalize Peel is a formulation of retinoic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid, resorcinol and other cosmeceutical ingredients. The Vitalize Peel is great for skin rejuvenation, acne, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. For dramatic results a series of 5 peels should be scheduled 4 weeks apart. The Vitalize Peel takes approximately 30 minutes, and you may resume normal activity after the procedure. Your skin may be redder and more sensitive than normal and peeling can occur 2-3 days after the procedure; this peeling can last 3-4 days. A makeup for sensitive skin like Jane Iredale is recommended after the peel because it allows the skin to breath and is so pure it can be applied to even the most sensitive skin.

You should not have a peel if you have:

    • Taken Accutane within the past year
    • Allergies to salicylates (aspirin)
    • Pregnant or breastfeeding
    • Inflammatory rosecea
    • Dermatitis
    • Active cold sores
    • Sunburned or sensitive skin
Avoid the Following One Week Before the Peel:
    • Electrolysis
    • Waxing
    • Depilatory Creams
    • Laser Hair Removal
Avoid the Following 2-3 Days Before the Peel:
    • Do not exfoliate.
    • Stop using Retin-A, Renova, Differin, or any other products containing Retinol, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) or Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA).
    • Refrain from prolonged exposure to the sun or tanning booths.
    Please also note:
    • Skin is going to be extremely sensitive to sun exposure. Protection with a recommended sunscreen and limited sun exposure for one week is highly recommended. Patients going on vacation in the next 2 weeks should wait to have their procedure following vacation.
    • Avoid strenuous activity 2-3 days after your peel (perspiration irritates skin).
    • Do not have any other facial treatment for at least 1 week after the peel.

All of our products and procedures have been selected because of their proven ability to promote healthier skin. Grand Rapids Ophthalmology provides you with access to exclusive medical skin care products from SkinCeuticals® and Skin Medica™ (available exclusively through physician offices). SkinCeuticals
SkinCeuticals delivers cosmeceutical products that have been proven to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin. Research has shown that one of the best things that you can do for your skin is through the use of a topical antioxidant. In fact, a comprehensive antioxidant program can help prevent photo-aging as well as the onset of more serious skin conditions; and topical antioxidants have been shown to provide 8 times the skins natural protection from UV rays. Topical antioxidants not only prevent signs of aging they also stimulate and promote collagen production.

SkinCeuticals is a proven leader in antioxidant protection with their revolutionary topical vitamin C containing L-Ascorbic acid in high concentrations. L-ascorbic acid is the only topical vitamin C that the body immediately recognizes and absorbs. These topical antioxidants are the most important thing that you can do to protect your skin from visible signs of aging as well as those damaging UV rays. The next best thing you can do for your skin is the use of a daily sunscreen.

SkinCeuticals has made several advancements in their sunscreens, which are among the elite for protection from UVA/UVB rays. To really protect yourself from the suns damaging rays, it is important to understand that a sunscreen needs to be more than just an SPF. That is why SkinCeuticals has developed a sunscreen with broad spectrum protection; this means that it is not only protecting you from the rays that burn you (UVB) it is also protecting you from the rays that can age and cause cancer (UVA).

Grand Rapids Ophthalmology offers several types of SkinCeuticals antioxidants to choose from. The skin care staff will help you make an appropriate decision based on your skin care needs and type. SkinCeuticals also offers a wide array of moisturizers, eye creams, cleansers, and toners.
