Chief Executive Officer

Bill Hughson has 25 years of experience leading and building companies in healthcare, retail, and education. Bill is passionate about building strong teams and delivering outstanding service to patients and customers.

Most recently, Bill was Chief Executive Officer of IntegraMed Fertility, the leading network of fertility practices and clinics in North America—which encompassed 28 practices, 110 locations, 175 reproductive endocrinologists, and over 2,500 employees. Prior to this, Bill was President of DeVry’s Healthcare Education Group where he was responsible for delivering high-quality healthcare education to physicians, veterinarians, nurses, and technicians across 35 campuses nationwide. Bill also served as: President of DaVita Rx, a specialty pharmacy providing comprehensive pharmacy care to tens of thousands of patients nationwide suffering from kidney disease; President of AG Ferrari Foods, a manufacturer, wholesaler, and retailer of Italian food and wine; and President of Noah’s Bagels, a manufacturer, wholesaler, and retailer of bagels and associated products.

Bill received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and is a graduate of Williams College.

Jeff Schechter joined Sterling Partners in 2006 as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer, and in 2013 was elevated to Chief Operating Officer. At Sterling, Jeff has primarily managed “the business of the business”, enabling investment professionals to focus on sourcing investment opportunities, structuring transactions, and recruiting management teams to build great companies. While at Sterling, Jeff was responsible for overseeing the areas of Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, Human Resources, and IT – establishing institutional-class infrastructure to support the firm’s growth. During his tenure, the firm grew its private equity assets under management from approximately $1B to nearly $4B.

Prior to Sterling, Jeff served for eleven years as Chief Financial Officer at Grotech Capital Group and, before that, Ernst & Young. Jeff received his Master of Science in Finance from Loyola University and is a graduate of University of Maryland. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and a Certified Financial Planner.

Roger Valine

Roger Valine began his 34-year career at Vision Service Plan (VSP) as a management trainee when the company had $10 million in annual revenue. Under Roger’s leadership, the company grew to nearly $3 billion in revenue, provided vision care insurance to more than 55 million members, and was selected for eight consecutive years as one of Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For”.

Roger has served on the University of California, Davis Graduate School of Management’s Dean’s Advisory Council.

David Barrett MD

Dr. David Barrett specializes in laser-vision correction and small-incision cataract surgery. He is a LASIK leader, having performed thousands of custom and Blade-Free LASIK procedures, in addition to the most advanced techniques in small-incision cataract surgery, including premium LifeStyle lenses.

Dr. Barrett received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, completed his Ophthalmology residency at Jules Stein Institute at UCLA, and is a graduate of Michigan State University. Dr. Barrett has been in private practice in West Michigan since 1990.

Dr. Michael Boyle is a fellowship-trained Oculoplastic Surgeon specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery. He is also Medical Director of Skin Solutions by Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, providing patients the best possible results following their eyelid procedures.

Dr. Boyle completed his Fellowship at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, is a Fellow of is a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), and is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, College of Medicine and completed his residency and internship at Indiana University.

Danny Rosenberg

Before co-founding RiverGlade Capital, Danny Rosenberg was Managing Director at Sterling Partners, a private equity firm based in Chicago focusing on founder-owned healthcare services, education, and business-services companies. During his 18 years at Sterling, where he acted as Managing Director since 2005, Danny co-led the healthcare services investing practice and led platform investments within inpatient rehabilitation, medical device reprocessing, behavioral-health/substance-abuse treatment, free-standing emergency rooms, dental management services, technology-enabled quality measurement, out-sourced surgical suite services, and ophthalmology/optometry management services. Additionally, Danny managed numerous diligence and transaction executional efforts, including corporate carve outs, debt financing and refinancing transactions, portfolio company sales to both private equity and strategic buyers, initial public offerings, add-on acquisitions, and restructurings.

Prior to Sterling Partners, Danny also served as: an Investment Banking Associate at Vector Securities International, where he focused on M&A and equity offerings for a variety of healthcare businesses; and Vice President of Acquisitions at Heitman Financial where he identified, underwrote, and managed large commercial real estate projects—investments totaling more than $300 million of institutional capital.

Danny graduated with an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and holds an AB in Economics and Public Policy from Duke University. He is a founding member, former Chairman, and current Board Member of the Illinois Venture Capital Association, the largest regional private equity association in the United States.

Dr. Philip VanderLugt has been an Optometrist with Grand Rapids Ophthalmology for over 20 years. In addition, he serves as Grand Rapids Ophthalmology’s Optometric Affairs Liaison and a member of its Mergers and Acquisitions team.

Dr. Vander Lugtreceived his Doctor of Optometry from Ferris State University College of Optometry after completing his undergraduate studies at Calvin College. He is the past president of West Michigan Optometric Association (WMOA) as well as an Associate Clinical Professor at Michigan College of Optometry.
