Laser Vision Procedures

LASIK is a two-step process

First, your eye is numbed using topical drops to insure you are comfortable. Your surgeon will then create a thin corneal flap with a gentle laser beam to prepare for the corrective treatment.

Photorefractive Keratectomy

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) uses a cool beam of light to gently reshape the surface layer of the eye called the cornea.

The eye is numbed using topical numbing eye drops. A light is then presented for fixation and in less than 60 seconds the light pulses reshape the cornea to the desired curvature.

After PRK, vision is blurred for three to five days as the surface layer of the eye heals. A clear contact lens acts as a bandage to minimize discomfort and aid in the healing process.

Questions & Answers

To help you understand how this life-changing procedure can help improve your vision correction needs, here are some of the most commonly asked questions.

AM I A CANDIDATE?

We offer FREE LASIK evaluations at our East Beltline location where extensive testing is performed to determine whether or not you are a good candidate. To be a good candidate, you must be between the ages of 18-60, have healthy eyes with a stable prescription and wear corrective lenses for nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.

IS THERE A CHARGE FOR THE EVALUATION?

The laser vision evaluation is performed at no charge.

WHERE DO I GO FOR MY EVALUATION APPOINTMENT?

Our evaluations are performed at our 750 East Beltline office. It is conveniently located in Grand Rapids just North of I-96 and off the East Beltline right before Frederik Meijer Gardens.

WHAT IF I WEAR CONTACT LENSES?

If you wear soft contacts, you must discontinue them completely at least 7 days prior to your LASIK evaluation. One to two weeks is recommended to be without soft contact lenses. If you wear hard or gas permeable contacts, you must discontinue wear at least 3-4 weeks prior to your LASIK evaluation.

WHY DO I HAVE TO REMOVE MY CONTACTS PRIOR TO AN EVALUATION?

In order to have accurate testing results, you must be in glasses to ensure the cornea is in its most natural shape. Contacts may reshape the cornea and create irregularities.

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO WAIT AFTER PREGNANCY, NURSING OR FERTILITY DRUGS/TREATMENT BEFORE AN EVALUATION?

The body’s hormone levels may cause vision to change or fluctuate during and after pregnancy, nursing or fertility drugs/treatment. Our doctors recommend waiting 3-6 months before an evaluation to insure the most accurate testing results.

DOES INSURANCE COVER LASER VISION CORRECTION?

Most insurance companies consider LASIK elective surgery because the eyes may be treated with glasses or contacts to correct vision. We recommend that you check with your insurance company to see if LASIK surgery is a covered benefit under your plan.

DO YOU OFFER A FINANCING OPTION FOR PAYMENT?

We accept the CareCredit healthcare credit card to provide our patients with interest free plans up to 24 months, no down payment requirements, affordable low monthly payments and no early payoff penalties. The application process is quick and easy. Visit the CareCredit.com website to apply.
